They have some kind of activity feed running on the beta site which lists stuff you actively do like adding friends, joining groups, posting new comments etc. That's the best thing to grab for a lifestream but I cannot find a feed for it yet. I've adsked a question about it and hope to hear from them.

I think the importing of the "Recent Tracks"-Feed just sucks, because of the mentioned Signal-Noise-Ratio. Friendfeed's approach could be better if everyone would use the "Love"-Button. I don't use it either.
So here are my two Feeds for LastFM:

http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=0793814b2c8eafed348ac85eff12ec58

http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_id=2470fca12351623ee462d33ff630b41a&_render=rss

The second one is a new approach to get most listenend albums that I don't seen somewhere. I use it in my custom liefstream @ http://web.soup.io, too.

Over at NoseRub, we had support for last.fm right from the beginning. But people complained about too much "noise" from that. Therefore, we introduced a new filter setting, so that everyone can decide on his/her own, if the "ABC listens to 123" should be displayed in the unfiltered social stream, or not.

As we also have filters like audio, video, text, micropublishing, etc., users can always choose to see what's going on in the audio part, just by one click on that specific filter.

So, I see the point, why FriendFeed did not want to have all the updates in their feeds, but I think they should have done a better choice for their users. Listening to music is a big portion of their daily life. So why exclude that information from a social stream?

The Subtle details are definitely important. So thanks for delving into the nitty gritty. I'm only on FriendFeed now but I have a personal lifestream built using Simple Pie and the FriendFeed service falls a bit short of what I can do with SimplePie.

FriendFeed doesn't import or otherwise allow me to set a favicon for my personal blogs. Instead we just get a standard feed icon next to blog posts. And I've also noticed that FriendFeed only imports YouTube favorites and does not add an entry each time I upload a video.

I've posted a request on FriendFeed for both of these features. I'm sure they will get around to it at some point. They're not deal breakers by any stretch of the imagination, but it is nice to have everything show up the way you expect it to.
