Ambitious ? I don't know. But really usefull...

As example, I setup Terababy account with only one username on famous Web service which give me several of his usernames on another Web services which give several another usernames...
<a href="http://life2front.com/terababy/" rel="nofollow">Terababy LiFEstream</a> (on LiFE2Front)

NB: I advice LiFE2Front users to define their favorites 3rd party Web services on MyBlogLog and FriendFeed ;o)

Today, several technologies allow me to apply DataPortability spirit without define new specification ; OPML, FOAF, Micro-Format, XFN, etc.

Nice meeting you as well Ben and I wish you guys the best of luck. Hopefully you can get some pilot vendors going to show some proof of concept demonstrations. That would be another great step. I'm looking forward to the next meetup.

Hey, just wanted to thank you for coming along to the Data Portability Meetup - it was great to meet you.

Also thanks for the wonderful write up... I agree, educating users will be an important part of the task, and something we'll begin to look closer at once we reach a tipping point with vendors. The timing has to be right, you see... educating users concludes with them being able to dive into something, so the vendors need to make something available for the user to be able to put the ideas into context... otherwise you hype them up and deliver nothing.
